The Swindle. Claude Chabrol. 1997. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loved the dancing sequence, Huppert's throat getting nicked, & the operatic absurdity of crime boss's den. But overall it didn't coalesce. The Maurice conflict was 100% lifeless. I get that there's some deconstructionist thing going on, but that never felt potent, either. It got me thinking, but not much, lol. Leads were fucking great, though... special, idiosyncratic performances. I could watch them bicker all day.
