I've been dialoging with a friend of mine about David Foster Wallace and said friend is kinda new to the Wallacesphere and I was trying to get at how the cultural understanding of DFW as a Swell Fella with a Genius IQ is a bit amiss for a number of reasons... but cuz it's tedious to explain... I put this clip from Charlie Rose on YouTube. It's basically DFW lowkey taking a piss on his buddy and it kinda, in my mind, humorously captures the essence of the nastier side of him. This interview was posted on HTMLGiant back in the day and one of the people in the comment thread pointed this moment out specifically saying it was an instance of DFW being like a shark who can taste blood in the water.
